Andrew Smith
| I was born and brought up in West London where I trained as a Monumental
Stone Mason before becoming a professional sculptor in 1989.
I spent most of my career working in Hillingdon, West London
but
have recently moved to a second studio in Nottingham. My work mainly comprises specific commissions and Ihave worked for many local councils and heritage/conservation organisations to produce site specific pieces. Private commisions include garden features, memorials and decorative items for the house, mostly figurative, but sometimes abstract. In the time I have left I like to create my own pieces which I sell privately. I am proficient in direct carving - which means I can work without design, a clay model or grids and points, preferring to use my imagination and work with the shape and texture of the stone itself. There a few galleries where you can see my work for sale click here My favourite stone is Portland Stone but I also work in a variety of Limestones and Marbles and lately I have been trying out the local Ancaster Stone. |
